[VIDEO]: Construction to Begin on World’s First 3D-Printed Neighborhood

The world’s first 3D-printed community is set to begin construction in Latin America, designed for families living on less than $200 a month. According to an article in New Atlas, the project is a joint initiative between non-profit design firm Fuseproject and construction technology company, Icon. The community will ideally serve as “proof of concept” for low-cost housing solutions around the world. The article says to create the homes, a 3D printer from Icon will lay down the walls before workers come in to install windows, roofing, and other necessities. New Atlas says Icon’s 3D printer can print the structural elements in 24 hours, and produces close to zero waste. As of now, the team has added finishing touches to its first blueprint.
