3D printing spend will rocket in 2019

Worldwide spending on 3D printing will reach $13.8bn in 2019 says new International Data Corporation guide. An update to the Worldwide Semiannual 3D Printing Spending Guide from IDC shows global spending on 3D printing (including hardware, materials, software, and services) will increase by 21.2% this year over 2018. By 2022, IDC expects worldwide spending to be nearly $22.7bn, a compound annual growth rate of 19.1%. Discrete manufacturing will be the dominant industry for 3D printing, delivering more than half of all worldwide spending throughout the 2018-2022 forecast. Healthcare providers will be the second largest industry with a spending total of nearly $1.8bn in 2019, followed by education ($1.2bn) and professional services ($898m). Consumer spending will account for less than 5% of the worldwide total at $647m. By 2022, IDC expects process manufacturing to move into the number 5 position ahead of the consumer segment.
